Grants to attend The first national symposium dedicated to Artist Run Initiatives Sydney. Flying Arts and Arts Queensland with the support of the Visual Arts and Crafts strategy are offering 15 grants to support Queensland artists wishing to attend the first national symposium dedicated to Artist Run Initiatives (ARIs).. It brings together leaders from the artist run initiative sector to explore concepts and ideas of future modelling for ARIs and the potential for a national ARI network in Australia. Expressions of Interest must be submitted online by COB Friday 12 August 2011. There are 15 grants each worth $650 towards travel and accommodation to participate in the event in Sydney. The Boonah Organisation for a Sustainable Shire presents their 2011 Environmental Arts Program

MOSAIC WITH MARCIA GIBBS Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August $50 Marcia Gibbs, a skilful community arts worker will present a mosaic workshop utlising old mirrors and broken crockery. Participants will create a beautiful mosaic piece from materials provided, or bring their own additional ‘tesserae’ such as jewellery, shells, broken crockery, glass beads or special tiles to add to their work. Old floral plates or those with other colourful designs would be appropriate.

FABRIC DYEING WITH PATENA MOESKER Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 August $50 Patena Moesker, local artist and teacher will share her skills and fascination with fabric dyeing methods with natural dyes. Patena has been attending workshops herself to learning new skills in fabric dyeing. Participants will be able to give a new lease of life to clothing with new colours in an environmentally friendly way.

STEPPING STONES WITH JULIE MADDOCKS Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 September $50 Julie Maddocks has explored many avenues of art including painting, leadlight, sculpture, and porcelain work. Participants will create colourful stepping stones for the garden, using discarded coloured glass and concrete. All workshops will be held at the Outlook, catered and include all materials, except those where participants wish to incorporate their own special items into their own creations. Caldera Art 2011 Scenic Rim Regional Council, Caldera Regional Arts (CA), and Tweed River Art Gallery, invite painters, sculptors and photographers to enter works that raise awareness of the region’s natural environment values and conservation issues. Prizes to the value of $11,000 (including 4 fellowships) are on offer with selected finalists exhibited at Tweed River Art Gallery. CA2010 fellowship recipients will exhibit their work @ the Centre Beaudesert. Other selected works will participate in the Caldera Artfest, Murwillumbah and the O’Reilly’s Canungra Vineyards exhibition. To be eligible for a CA fellowship, an entry into CA2011 is a prerequisite.
